The Dears - You and I Are a Gang of Losers
Does anyone else have a thing for bands on Arts & Crafts Records, or is it just me? I think that label puts out consistently good bands, and I find it to be pretty exciting.
The Dears are from Montreal and formed in 1995. Their front man, Murray Lightburn, has been compared as a ‘black version of Morrisey.’ He has a very strong, yet sweet voice, with a touch of rasp. I find it comforting to listen to this song.
I couldn’t possibly love Arts & Crafts any more then I already do. One of the things that bummed me out was not getting to meet any of the fine folks that run the label at SXSW. Their showcase was PACKED! Over a year ago, they were supposed to put me on the list to see The Dears but when I got there, my name hadn’t made it on the list and I was rejected(!). So they sent me a huge stack of CDs. Besides having consistently incredible musical acts, they’re just nice folks.
