yvynyl: Beck / Videotheque

“Modern Guilt was released one year ago this week! For the occassion we are putting up acoustic versions of the entire album recorded earlier this year after returning from the Japan tour (under severe jet lag). Tracks will be released weekly starting with this rendition of Orphans. There will be limited ep of four tracks from the session available soon. We’ll also be putting up all the promotional videos from the album this week in the new section, Videotheque.”

So cool. If you’re anything like me, once you watch this, you’ll follow along the rest of the week!

Does it ever just dawn on you that you are incredibly no one. Here I am, just a chick at my computer in San Francisco. Who am I? I am no one except to friends and family and people I work with. There is actually quite a bit of comfort in that thought.

Generally insignificant and fairly normal in the sense that there are millions of other people just like me out there in the world, doing their thing. I appreicate that non-famous people seriously outnumber celebrities. Just in case we need to take ‘em on.

“One of the ways in which we adapt to social life is by learning our culture’s stock of situational definitions. By the time we grow to adulthood in a given society, most of us have unconsciously mastered the broad outlines of many, if not most, of our society’s definitions of situations. To be improperly socialized is to, in part, to be unable to negotiate successfully the demands of various situations. The worker who acts like a colleague to his or her boss, the person who tells jokes at a funeral or starts a poker game at a wedding reception— these people are either unable to grasp the situational definitions or perhaps so keenly aware of them that they feel they must constantly challenge them.” Joshua Meyerowitz, No Sense of Place, 1985 (p. 25). 99dollarmusicvideos:

Remember the wisened director Timothy McConville from Tuesday? Well today you get to enjoy the fruits of his labor by watching his music video for “White Piano.”

Tim is not only the director but the band’s drummer. So tune in now to see how he turned a dirty, jagged jam of a song into a dirty, jagged jam of a music video.

BONUS: Dutchess has 3 FANTASTIC songs available for FREE DOWNLOAD from the heat-seeking, hit-makers RCRD LBL. Go get ‘em.

LOVE love love this week’s music video. Doesn’t hurt that Tim’s a straight up nice guy. Favorite thing I just saw is that even though it’s stop motion, the cars in the background change but still look like one car moving across the street, at 0:14. Rad.
