“I think when you, the listener, get to the point that you’re noticing the production or playing techniques replicated from band to band, that’s the sign that it’s time for the listener to move on to new sounds.” —

‘genre fatigue’… it’s real, bitches. Expand your horizons. Here are three suggestions for fantastic music outsides your usual realm:

  1. Benn Loxo du Taccu
  2. Dalston Oxfam Shop
  3. nialler9
  4. Bonus: Songs, by Toad

And no I’m not telling you what they cover. Your job to come to that conclusion yourself.

It’s really, really slick. That’s for sure. I’m listening to some Yeasayer.

Also: not gonna lie. It really bums me out that I have to go to big blogs and such to discover sites like this.  What happened to the days of discovering them other ways? To coming to a blog like this and being able to say “man, I already heard about this thing last week! Am I delusional? Is there any other way.

Feast your eyes on the World’s First Album CoverFeast your eyes on the World’s First Album Cover

“The article is indicative of a common misunderstanding about the many roles performed in an artist’s career. Artists can succeed without a major label, but a decent career is going to be hard to achieve without the other traditional components: manager, lawyer, booking agent, publisher, web designer and maybe indie label. As you can see, an indie artist is independent only of a major label contract, not of agents, consultants, representation or standard expenses that take up their share of the artist’s income.” —

Coolfer from the blog post Let’s Re-define the Term “Indie” inspired by the Wall Street Journal article Indie Artists Drum Up Corporate Ties

Defining indie is a challange for a lot of people especially considering all the grey areas there are. For example, being distributed by a major label owned company, or being on a major label in a different country but on an indie label here in the U.S. To me, independent is a band whose bread and butter is controlled in majority by an independent entity like a label not in cahoots by the big 4.

What is indie to you?
